Region 5 Tribal Brownfields Workshop

This two-day Tribal workshop offers an opportunity for participants to learn strategies for successful cleanup and grant management, as well as to build relationships.

Event Information:

Please join the Bay Mills Indian Community, EPA Region 5, and Tribal TAB for the 2026 Region 5 Tribal Brownfields Workshop. This is a hybrid workshop that can be attended in-person or virtually.  

The workshop agenda includes:

Drones: certification and training

Contracting basics

Cleanup: managing grants, case studies, and compliance

Illegal dumps and abandoned vehicles

Grants and resources

In-person attendees will also enjoy a cleanup field trip on Wednesday, May 6th. Items needed for site visit include close-toed shoes and long pants are recommended. One of the sites has tall grass and a steep bank (optional to go down the bank).

Baagaadewewin Game:

On May 6 from 5:00pm-7:00pm, there will be a Baagaadewewin game (precursor to Lacrosse) at the gym at Ojibwe Charter School (located at 12099 W. Lakeshore Drive, Brimley, MI 49715). There will be additional instructions provided. This is part of Michigan Tribal Environmental Group (MTEG) event/meeting happening the following day. Workshop folks are invited to join, cheer, or just watch.
